Roof repair in Jūrmala
Roofs in Jūrmala have a harder life than most. They sit between the sea and the pine forest, and many of them are on wooden houses more than a hundred years old.
Jūrmala is part of our daily area, from Priedaine and Lielupe to Majori, Dubulti, Kauguri and Ķemeri. Here is what is different about roofs here, and what we do about it.
What’s different about Jūrmala roofs
Same rain as Rīga. Different houses, more trees, and the sea next door.
Old wooden houses and villas
Summer houses and villas often have complicated roofs: towers, verandas, carved eaves, several valleys. Every joint is a place where water can get in, and the timber under it rots quietly.
Pine needles
Pines drop needles all year. They pack into gutters, valleys and the space behind chimneys, hold water like a sponge and grow moss. A gutter that is clear in spring can be full by autumn.
Sea air
The Gulf of Rīga is much less salty than an ocean, but wind off the sea still brings damp and some salt. Near the shore, metal rusts faster at scratches, cut edges and screws.
Shade and damp
Under the pines, roofs dry slowly. North slopes stay damp, moss grows faster, and wooden shingles and slate suffer most.
Wind off the sea
Storms come in straight from the gulf. Loose sheets, ridge pieces and flashing are the first things to lift.
Houses empty all winter
Many summer houses stand empty from autumn to spring. A leak in November can soak a ceiling for months before anyone sees it.
Protected buildings
A large part of Jūrmala is protected. The historic resort area is a protected urban planning monument, and many individual villas are listed cultural monuments.
On a protected building, changing the roof (a different material, colour or shape) usually needs approval from the National Heritage Board (Nacionālā kultūras mantojuma pārvalde) and the Jūrmala building board. A like-for-like repair is simpler, but it is worth checking before the work starts.
Not sure if your house is protected? The National Heritage Board’s register of monuments is public. Where heritage rules apply, we source matching or restoration materials.
What we do in Jūrmala
Mostly small jobs done in time, so they don’t turn into big ones.
Gutters and valleys cleared
Needles and moss out of gutters, valleys and from behind the chimney, downpipes checked. Under pines, twice a year makes sense: late spring and late autumn.
Rust caught early
Rust spots cleaned and treated, old screws replaced before they let water in.
Wooden roofs repaired like for like
Shingles, boards and eaves replaced in matching timber, so an old house keeps its look.
Storm damage made safe
Lifted sheets and flashing refixed. Leaks are made safe the same day.
Fixed price and guarantee
A fixed written price before we start, and a written three-year guarantee when we finish.

Do you come to Kauguri and Ķemeri?
Yes, all of Jūrmala, from Priedaine to Ķemeri. Jūrmala is part of our daily area.
My villa is a protected monument. Can you repair the roof?
Yes. A like-for-like repair is usually the simplest route. If anything about the roof would change, the approvals come first, and we work to what they allow.
How often should gutters be cleaned under pines?
Twice a year is a good rule: once in late spring, once in late autumn after the last leaves. If water pours over the gutter in rain, it is already full.
The house is empty all winter. What should I do before I leave?
Clear the gutters, cut back branches that hang over the roof, and look at the ceilings under the roof for any old stains. After a big storm, ask a neighbour to look in, or call us.
Send a photo, get a price
One photo of the roof from the ground and one of the wet patch inside are usually enough for a first price the same day.
Mon–Sat 8:00–20:00. Leaks and storm damage seven days a week.
